Walter Moroder
Duration: 13.11.2013 - 06.01.2014
Artists: Walter Moroder
Curator: Valerio Dehò
Most of the works by Walter Moroder on exhibition at Merano arte are made of wood: human figures with timeless, empty faces.
There they stand, delicate and well-balanced, like Gardenese woodcarvings, and yet they appear quite different. The bodies carved by Moroder have fine lines and stand calmly and introvertedly. Seriously and aloof, they receive visitors who see themselves in these naturalistic representations. Intuition and corporeality face each other. If we take a closer look, questions arise regarding our human existence. What is inside these chiselled bodies?
The sculptures are first made as clay models and sometimes cast in bronze or moulded out of plaster and bandages. The plaster figures look like bodies, but remain hollow inside.
Walter Moroder, born in 1963, lives and works in St. Ulrich.
He learned the basics of woodcarving in the atelier of his father, David Moroder. From 1983 to 1988, Moroder studied with Prof. Hans Ladner at Akademie der bildenden Kunst in Munich. From 1988 to 2001, he taught at Kunstschule Gröden. After that, he made study visits to: USA, Mexico, Indonesia.
His considerable list of solo and group exhibitions,
both at home and abroad, give an idea of how extensive his work is.
As of October 1, two sculptures by Walter Moroder will be presented at Sandplatz in Merano.
A cooperation project between Merano arte, Ensemble Conductus, and Biennale Gherdëina, St. Ulrich.
Following the presentation on Sandplatz, the sculptures 2014 will be presented in the gardens of Schloss Trauttmansdorff.
In the context of the exhibition, there will be
a concert by Lorenzo Cavasanti & Ensemble Conducus,
directed by Marcello Fera
on November 14, at 8.30 p. m.
in Herz-Jesu-Kirche der Englischen Fräulein.
Advance booking and advance ticket sale: at Merano arte, starting on Monday, November 11, phone 0473 212643, as well as at the box office.
Furthermore, two sculptures by Walter Moroder will be installed for the concert evening.
Thus, there will be a dialogue of different means of expression as well as between indoors and outdoors. Public domain and private domain: between the main exhibition at MERANO ARTE, the two sculptures on Sandplatz and the musical evening, which will take place in Kirche der Englischen Fräulein behind it.
